SPECIALTIES:
Psycho-educational Assessments, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Learning Difficulties, Giftedness, Mental Health Assessments, Anxiety, Emotional and Behavioural Concerns, School-Based Consultation, Developmental Concerns
Hi, I’m Dr.. Amber Perry. I’m a Registered Clinical and School Psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and a member of the Canadian Psychological Association. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Toronto and received my clinical and research training at the Hospital for Sick Children. My early research focused on Pediatric ADHD through the Department of Psychiatry Research at SickKids, and since then, my career has been devoted to supporting children, adolescents, and families through comprehensive assessment and consultation services.
I bring nearly 20 years of experience in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, providing assessments and therapeutic interventions for individuals experiencing mild to complex difficulties. My background includes clinical work at Brampton Civic Hospital, SickKids, and the Simcoe County District School Board, as well as leadership as Chief Psychologist and Mental Health Lead for a school board in Sudbury, Ontario. In private practice, I am the founder of Georgian Bay Psychology and York Pediatric Psychology, where I have focused on psycho-educational, autism, and mental health assessments for nearly two decades.
I specialize in identifying learning differences, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional or behavioural concerns that may be impacting a child’s academic and social success. My goal is to provide families with a clear understanding of their child’s strengths and needs, along with practical, evidence-based recommendations to support them at school and at home.
I offer psychological assessments for children and youth (ages 6–18) at Blue Wave Therapy. Services are available in person during weekday hours in our Markham clinic.
many families reach out when:
Falling behind in school or struggling to keep up academically
Showing signs of inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity
Experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties (anxiety, mood concerns, meltdowns)
Having difficulty meeting developmental milestones or showing signs of autism spectrum disorder
Feeling frustrated, discouraged, or misunderstood
Unfortunately, the current public system in York Region has a waitlist of approximately 5–6 years for psychoeducational assessments, leaving many families without the timely support their child needs.
If nothing changes, these challenges can lead to increased stress at home and at school, lower self-esteem, worsening mental health symptoms, and missed opportunities for early intervention and support. With the right support, however, children can build confidence, strengthen their skills, and thrive at home and in school
Working with us is clear and structured:
-
You’ll speak with our team to share your primary concerns and determine which type of assessment best fits your child’s needs.
-
We’ll provide a written quote if required for you to submit to your insurance provider for pre-determination. Because the assessment services are conducted by a Registered Psychologist and Registered Social Work team, there is often pooled coverage by extended health benefits.
-
Parents will work directly with the team to complete questionnaires, share school records (report cards, IEPs), and participate in a separate parent interview call.
-
Conducted in 1 session (for psycho-ed, sometimes 2 sessions depending on the needs of your child).
Appointments are scheduled at the Markham clinic on Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.
Parent consent and custody documentation must be provided in advance.
Important details:
Assessments are available during weekday hours only.
Custody documentation must be received prior to booking (if applicable).
Spots fill quickly; we recommend booking early — especially given the long waitlists for publicly funded assessments in York Region.
-
Once the assessment is complete, parents receive a clear and personalized explanation of the results and recommendations during a phone feedback session. A detailed written report is also provided, outlining key findings and practical next steps. To support your child’s ongoing growth and well-being, wrap-around services are offered, and families can be connected to Registered Therapists on site for continued care.
